SCTPP is a program developed by senior executives from industry and safety advocates through the ARTBA Foundation. Its aim is to reduce, and hopefully eliminate, the nearly 50,000 worker deaths and injuries that happen each year in and around U.S. infrastructure construction projects. It is intended for workers, supervisors and foremen as well planners, designers and operators of equipment suppliers, manufacturers, and owners.
The SCTPP exam is a 2.5 hour long test that consists of 120 multiple choice questions on assessing, creating and implementing Pro-project safety plans in identifying and reducing risks, directing the personnel on site for projects, creating an incident investigation plan, writing an incident/accident report, and conducting training sessions for field personnel. SCTPP certification is valid for three years. Recertification is required to demonstrate that you have documented your ongoing learning and retesting.
To be eligible for the SCTPP applicants must possess a bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management and two years of experience* working at transportation construction sites. This can be as a laborer, operator or foreperson and can also be gained through internships. The applicant must also take an OSHA 30 or 510 training. SCTPP will pay for the average weighted tuition at a participating school or the actual tuition billed or less. SCTPP will cover certain expenses but not all.
